News from the Final Frontier

Some cool happenings today... out in space!

Following a 7 year journey, the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft should enter orbit around Saturn in about 9 hours. Cassini is a joint NASA, ESA and ASI project to explore and study the sixth planet of our solar system, and some of its 31 known moons. As it enters orbit the craft will actually pass through Saturn's rings and begin gathering data within hours. You can catch live coverage of the orbital insertion on this webcast.

And, in fictional space news... I just discovered that SciFi will begin airing it's new Battlestar Galactica series in January! I was a huge fan of the original series, though I was only 9 or 10 at the time. I had my doubts when SciFi decided to retell (and revise) the story in a miniseries last year. But, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a tape of it. Of course, I don't get the SciFi channel (the sacrifices you have to make when choosing to forgo your salary to stay home with the kids), but maybe some friends (R & K?) will tape the show for me?
