The Taxman Cometh!

Alright, I know there are a few procrastinators out there. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about… you’ve waited ‘til the last minute to file your income tax returns haven't you? Well, today’s the day: April 15 - Tax Day here in the US.

According to the government, more than 131 million federal tax returns will be filed this year. Approximately a million of them will be mailed at my local post office between 11:45pm and midnight tonight. At least it seems like that. :-/

Our post office actually stays open until midnight on tax day. And there’s always a long line of cars waiting to turn into the parking lot right up to closing time. The postal service is quite helpful in this regard. The past few years they’ve had employees with big mail bins standing out on the median so you don’t even have to pull into the parking lot itself. Just drive up the street, roll down your window and toss your tax return to the clerk. Now that’s customer service!

Not that I know any of this from personal experience, mind you. Ahem.

Curious where you can mail your return right up until the last minute? The good folks at the US Postal Service have setup a toll-free hotline. Just call 1-800-ASK-USPS (24 hrs).

Want to avoid the line all together? File online! Check out the IRS website for info.

Now…. What to do with that tax refund?
