Fun with Butterflies
I spent much of last week with a bunch of butterflies. The butterflies in question were not gossamer-winged insects but rather a group of precocious three-year olds at our church's Summer Bible Camp. As I did last year, I volunteered to teach a preschool class (which we named "the Butterflies").
Kids are a lot of fun at that age, even if it is hard to hold their attention for a half-day class. We did all the usual camp stuff - told stories, did some arts and crafts projects, toured the big kids' camp (the older kids really get into things with lots of costumes and role-playing), and sang some songs (luckily I didn't have to lead the singing - I couldn't hold a tune if my life depended on it).
I was more experienced this year than last, but didn't have as much time to prepare (thought we were going to be in Austin by now) so in the end I again felt pretty drained at the end of each day. It's one thing to take care of your own kids every day, it's quite another to lead an entire class of other kids. Once again, my hat's off to teachers who do this day in and day out during the school year!
