What's up, doc?

I don't know who the culprit was. It was probably something she brought home from school. Maybe there really was a germ on the "germ" she brought home from school a couple weeks ago (that would be the polkadotted thing above). In any case, our daughter has been sick with the croup and an ear infection for the past few days. She had a hard, restless night on Monday with her fever spiking at about 103 degrees (F). We were up several times throughout the night trying to ease her cough and breathing (drinking fluids, sitting in a steamy bathroom with her, or just cuddling her in the rocking chair). She spent much of yesterday huddled on the couch in a blanket, or curled up asleep in her bedroom.

Seeing your kids when they're sick and miserable like this has to be one of the hardest things to do as a parent. Especially when there's just not much you can do about it. The good news is that croup usually only lasts a few days. She did much better last night and appears to be on the mend. Unfortunately, it looks like she may have passed the illness along to her little brother so we may have a few more sleepless nights ahead.
