Happy New Year!

新年快樂

The Chinese New Year celebration begins today! So, welcome to the year 4702, the Year of the Rooster! I feel kind of partial to this part of the Chinese zodiac cycle, having been born in the Year of the Rooster.

Hmmm... as I write this I am glancing at the calendar that came with some takeout we ordered recently. It says people born in the Year of the Rooster are "a pioneer in spirit, are devoted to work and the quest for knowledge; are selfish and eccentric." I kind of like that. Well, except for the selfish part (although it may be true). I can see myself being eccentric later in life, like when I'm a grandfather perhaps. I equate being eccentric with being interesting, so yeah, I like that.

It goes on to warn that "Rabbits are trouble, but Snakes and Oxen are fine" as mates. Uh, oh. My wife was born in the Year of the Rabbit. Wonder if I should have checked the Chinese zodiac before I asked her to marry me? Anyway, Happy New Year!

Congratulations and be prosperous! 恭喜發財
