An empty nest... for a few hours anyway

We registered our son for preschool yesterday. His classes don't start until September, but you have to be on the ball about these things, at least around here. Classes fill up fast! You hear stories of parents camping out the night before to make sure they're first in line when some schools open for registration. That seems a bit nuts to me, but I guess if that's what you think is best for your child, I guess you gotta do, what you gotta do. Luckily, the preschool we chose isn't that competitive and if you mail the registration on time there usually isn't a problem (especially if you already have a child at the same school, which we do).

The whole thing has me thinking about next September. Our daughter will be in kindergarten for the full day, and our son will be in preschool for 3 hours, 3 days a week. That's 9 hours a week when I'll be home. Alone. It'll be so quiet!

Hmmm... what should I plan to do during those 9 hours? Well, let's see, I could get some blogging in... or read a book... or take a nap.... I know, I could use that time to clean house and make a real dent in all those other household projects that never seem to get done (hey, I know my wife reads my blog)!

;-)

Seriously, what should I do with those 9 hours? Any suggestions? If you're an at-home parent, what do you do while your kids are in school?
