To the Polls We Go!!!

We took the kids with us this morning as we headed off to a local elementary school to cast our votes in today's election. We knew there was going to be a long line when we turned the corner and saw cars spilling out of the parking lot and lined both sides of the street leading to the school.

Sure enough, when we got inside the school the lines snaked through the gymnasium, out the door and down the hallway. I've voted in this precinct the last 5 elections, and can honestly say that I have never had to wait in a line longer than 5 minutes. This morning we waited over 45 minutes! The school's PTA had set up a bake sale in the hallway, so we snacked on doughnuts and juice as we waited (they must of raked in the donations - nothing like having a captive audience).

Our local news just reported that Maryland turnout is especially heavy, predicting the Free State will end the night with an 80-90% turnout rate in many precincts. wOOt! Turnout is reported to by high in other areas of the country as well. The first results should start coming in a little over an hour from now. I'll be staying up late, watching the returns, praying. Whoever wins the presidency, I hope it's a decisive victory and doesn't drag on like the 2000 debacle.

And if you haven't voted yet, what are you waiting for? GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!!!
