Rainy Day

The weather has taken a turn for the soggy with a cool, wet drizzle settling in and scuttling our outdoor plans for this afternoon. Our daughter is home from preschool, our son is up from his nap, so we're looking for something fun to do on a rainy day.

I think we're going to try something new. Something combining two of the kids' favorite things, Play-Doh and cooking. We're going to attempt to make our own play dough! I've never done this before, but I picked up a recipe at my daughter's school and it looks easy enough. I'll let you know how it goes.

Here's the recipe, in case you're interested:
Play Dough

4 cups water
4 cups flour
2 cups salt
8 teaspoons cream of tartar
8 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 packets flavored drink mix or food coloring*
glitter*

Pour water, flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil into large pan. Place on stove over medium heat. Blend/stir with wooden spoon until dough forms. Be careful not to overcook. Add food coloring or drink mix for color/scent. Add glitter for sparkle. Recipe may be halved if a smaller batch is desired.
*optional
Let me know how it turns out if you try (or have tried) this with your kids. Anybody out there have other ideas for rainy day activities?
